Nicole Ari Parker (born Nicole Ari Parker) is an American actress, who is employed in television, film and theatre. She's best known as Teri Joe the fiery lawyer from The Showtime program Soul Food. After her marriage she became Nikki Kodjoe. The talent she displayed in her acting was apparent since childhood. In a Maryland high-school contest awarded her with the award for best actress. Following her time in theater as well as with "The Washington Ballet Company", she received an acting degree at the New York University. The Incredibly True Adventure of Two Girls in Love, her debut performance in a major film, earned her a lot of respect. There followed films like 'Boogie Nights Spark & Blue Streak. Contractor is a Mumbai-born Indian, who lived in Nigeria at the age of was just seven years old. She had a lot of knowledge about different cultures around the world and was able to travel in such a short time. She was educated in the boarding school of London between 7 and 9 years. Later, her family moved to London and moved to Toronto, Canada. Contractor achieved academic success in Toronto while also training as ballerina. She was a student at the Etobicoke School of the Arts, a high school for the arts that was specifically designed to be a school in which she studied not only dance, but also drama. Contractor was inspired to pursue acting more seriously at the age of 16 following almost 10 years of dancing. After graduating high school, Contractor was awarded a scholarship by The University of Toronto to pursue a dual major in sociology and psychology. In addition, she obtained a Master's degree in Theatre. Contractor got her first part in the midst of her university year. She received rave reviews for her performances in the 92 shows performed the play was voted as the best production by Canadian reviewers in 2002. She accepted the invitation to attend Stratford's conservatory. It is a place where only four men and eight women are able to take an intensive 20-week training in classical theater. Contractor received a guaranteed spot in the next season of plays and landed the role of Hermia in A Midsummer Night's Dream.
